ERARTA MUSEUM ST PETERSBURG
Erarta is the biggest non-governmental museum of contemporary art in Russia, situated in St. Petersburg, the cultural capital. The collection counts close to 2.000 works by 140 contemporary Russian artists, but the goal is to open also to foreign artists. The basis of choice of the of the works for the collection do not follow a single style, but it is captivated by freedom, originality and craftsmanship, as stated by Michail Ovchinnikov, director of the museum. The ambitious project is housed in a striking yellow building with white columns divided into two wings – the right wing houseing the gallery, and the left the museum. The building has undergone a complete overhaul to transform it into a modern space for its new contents. It is hard to miss, juxtaposed opposite the tired-looking Soviet Palace of Culture. The building include the museum exposition and different galleries, media halls, a cafè for chilling out and for artist presentations, a souvenir shop and restaurant. The flooring plays an important role in the entire exhibition. Artigo ND/UNI had been chosen for all the main areas of the building thank to its unique characteristics.
The 3mm thickness flooring offers great walking comfort and outstanding sound reduction due to treading, so important in a museum application. The architects chose 8 colours: every single floor of the building has been characterized by different geometrical inlays between the base colour (U36 Silk) and other 7 chosen among the standard Artigo UNI range. The flooring almost becomes a piece of art itself outlining the exceptional avant-garde of the exhibited works.
